Isle of Moon + Imaginary beings

My workshop is on an island, hence the name isle of Moon. This is where the beings become. They are spirits living in the greenery, lurking behind the old tree and bathing in sea.
Some take a bodily presence in porcelain and dress in colourful glazes.

Background + Meticulousness

With a background in technical outdoor garment design (trekking...) I enjoy making meticulous patterns and plans for each piece. While being their own individuals they are also research in how the porcelain works.

Dance + Independence

What makes it hold up, which shapes soften and move in the heat of the kiln and how can I use this to my advantage? I like to think the beings free themselves from me and my rigid planning by dancing in the kiln.

Porcelain + Challenge

Porcelain intrigues me with its princess manners. It is challenging but all going well pretty, delightful and rock hard. The whiteness has itchy associations with class. Yet it is a perfect pure slate for colourful glaze. And colour is important.

Colour + Glazes

Part of the meticulous work are ridiculous amounts of glaze experiments. With a periodic table in one hand and an ever-expanding wish list in the other I collaborate with glaze chemistry to produce a growing library of glorious glazes in happy colours.
